fbus20 Katherine HepburnMovie Icons taschen, Alain Silver (text)For a long time, The African Queen (John Huston, 1951) was my only Katherine Hepburn film, finally followed by her last, On Golden Pond (Mark Rydell, 1981). Recently added were two Spencer Tracy vehicles - Adam's Rib (George Cukor, 1949) and Woman of the Year (George Stevens, 1942) - and eventually, both with Cary Grant, The Philadelphia Story (George Cukor, 1940), and that screwball comedy of screwball comedies, Bringing Up Baby (Howard Hawks, 1938).This is still not very much compared to the 44 feature films, 8 television movies, and 33 plays she appeared in during her 66-year career, covering more screwball comedies, period dramas, and adaptations of works by America's top playwrights, including regular stage and Broadway musical work. So another case where a Taschen Movie Icon series booklet is just about what you need - though deliberately heavy on photography, Taschen is always reliable on filmographic data and overviews, with a very readable short text by Alain Silver.fbus20 Katherine Hepburn 4 June 2012
